PV-SAGE


ParaView System for Atmospheric Geospatial Exploration
PV-SAGE is a set of filters for use in ParaView for the purpose of exploring spatial and geospatial data sets in atmospheric science. Descriptions of the available filters are given on the Download Center page; examples of visualizations created with the filters are on the Photo Gallery page.

PV-SAGE filters are currently available for Mac OS-X, but they are written to be cross-platform and could be compiled for other platforms. This could be done by end users from source code, or through a contractual arrangement with Rasmussen Systems.

Quoting from the ParaView web site: "ParaView is an open-source, multi-platform data analysis and visualization application. ParaView users can quickly build visualizations to analyze their data using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The data exploration can be done interactively in 3D or programmatically using ParaView's batch processing capabilities. ParaView was developed to analyze extremely large datasets using distributed memory computing resources. It can be run on supercomputers to analyze datasets of terascale as well as on laptops for smaller data."

The User's Guide for PV-SAGE is provided in the form of ThoughtTrace documents. These are small PDF documents that can be read interactively online, or the entire document set can be downloaded and perused at the user's site. See the links below.

This means that you can distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon this work, even commercially, as long as you credit Erik Rasmussen for the original creation. The source code is available at the Download Center link below. PV-SAGE utilizes the open source software system and application called ParaView, which has a separate license.
